This book offers an exploration of possibilities for evangelization in China using a “road less traveled” that does not compromise the teachings of the Church but takes a Christ-centered but pragmatic approach, with an eye toward Chinese religious history and current sensibilities. It includes detailed historical analysis and reflections on current challenges and opportunities, particularly in light of documents from recent popes. Yan gives a Chinese Christian perspective on a complicated subject that is often misunderstood by Catholics and often not historically contextualized by either by Chinese or Christian observers, covering both the history of Christianity in China and the complicated current situation for missioners and evangelization efforts.
