Manuscript Evaluation
The editorial team at Novalis is always delighted to receive new projects for evaluation.
How Do I Submit a Book Project?
Send your complete manuscript or the table of contents and sample chapters digitally in Word format to the following email address: simon.appolloni@novalis.ca.
We recommend including a short letter describing your expertise in the subject area, your approach, your religious affiliation, the structure of the project and the intended audience.
What Types of Manuscripts Does Novalis Select for Publication?
- We publish texts with a spiritual and intellectual dimension that are consistent with the Christian faith.
- Typically, we publish works ranging from 20,000 to 50,000 words.
- We do not publish openly polemical works.
- We do not publish fiction or poetry.
What Does the Evaluation of Your Project Involve?
We are proud to offer everyone the opportunity to have their manuscript reviewed within approximately two months. Manuscripts that we do not choose to publish will be deleted from our digital files.Β
Four Possible Outcomes of Your Project Evaluation:
- Outcome #1: Your project is accepted for publication.
- Outcome #2: Your project may be accepted for publication if costs are shared (Novalis Advantage+).
Some projects are of great interest to only certain sectors (populations??) of our readership (requiring a limited print run and, therefore, high printing costs) or they require editorial and/or design and printing costs that make the project financially unfeasible. Through our regular publication process In such cases, the financial risk must be mitigated by a specific agreement between the author and the publisher.
- Outcome #3: Your project is rejected for regular publication (which includes sales, marketing and distribution) but qualifies for our publishing support program (Novalis Advantage).
Certain projects while aligning with our editorial guidelines, values and mission are of interest to a very defined population (such as a particular school board; diocese or organization). In these cases, Novalis offers authors or organizations expertise in the following stages of production:
β Editing and language review
β Cover design
β Layout and proofreading
β Printing
In this case, the author assumes the production costs associated with publishing their work and purchases 100% of the printed copies.
- Outcome #4: Your project is not accepted for publication.
We thank you for your interest in publishing with Novalis!
