May 9. Mary, Mother of the Church

Theological meaning

At the foot of the cross, Mary receives the mission to love all disciples as her own children. Since then, she has unfailingly accompanied the Church in its mission through time.

In the Bible

“All these were constantly devoting themselves to prayer […] together with Mary.” (Acts 1.14)

Meditation

The Church is made up of very different people, with small stories and great, with fragilities and needs. Mary is present there as a quiet mother, united to the prayer of the faithful. She does not impose herself: she sustains. Even today, she accompanies our Church in its hopes as well as in its challenges. She invites us to value unity, not to lose heart and to keep hoping.
