May 19. Our Lady of Schools

Theological meaning

Mary accompanies those who learn, teach and seek the truth. She is a model of listening and interior growth.

In the Bible

“Make me to know your ways, O Lord; teach me your paths.” (Psalm 25.4)

Meditation

To learn is first to accept that we do not know everything. Mary said “yes” to God’s plan without grasping all its implications. Her learning continued throughout her life: as a woman, and as the mother of a very special son, Jesus. She teaches us the interior humility needed to grow in the knowledge of God.

Mary, guide those who learn and those who teach.
