May 18. Mary, Ark of the Covenant

Theological meaning

Mary bears within her the very presence of God, like the Covenant’s Ark in the Old Testament. She is one of the privileged places where God meets humanity.

In the Bible

“And the Word became flesh.” (John 1.14)

Meditation

We believe that God chose to dwell among us. In Mary, through Mary, this presence became visible. Even today, God desires to dwell in us and among us. We are called to become “transparent to God,” one of his faces, one of his outstretched hands.

Prayer

Mary, help me to carry God to those around me.
