May 17. Our Lady of Perpetual Help

Theological meaning

Mary is a constant support for those who turn to her. Her help is effective because she gently leads us to her Son.

In the Bible

“God is our refuge and strength.” (Psalm 46.1)

Meditation

In moments of fatigue or anxiety, we look for support. We are not short of helpers: the communion of saints offers many powerful intercessors. But for many, Mary is the one to whom it feels natural to turn. She does not replace God: she leads us to him.
