May 16. Our Lady of Silence

May 16. Our Lady of Silence

Theological meaning

Mary does not let what is essential remain on the surface; she reflects on events in her heart. She teaches us that silence is a place of encounter with God.

In the Bible

“In returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and in trust shall be your strength.” (Isaiah 30.15)

Meditation

Our lives are often noisy, filled with the clamour of news and our many activities. While God can speak in many ways, most often he speaks in silence. Mary holds and ponders: she lets things mature within her.

Prayer

Mary, teach me to embrace silence and to listen for God within it.
