May 10. Our Lady of Guadalupe

Theological meaning

Mary draws close to the lowly and speaks the language of those she meets. She reveals a God who adapts himself to us out of love.

In the Bible

“He has lifted up the lowly.” (Luke 1.52)

Meditation

God does not speak only through the voice of the clergy or in the Scriptures. He comes to meet us in our language, our lived experience, our very own situation. At Guadalupe, in drawing close to the simplest, Mary shows us that absolutely no one is forgotten by God. Today, we are invited to look at others in the same way: to recognize their dignity, to listen and to welcome.
