May 1. Mary, Mother of God

May 1. Mary, Mother of God
Theological meaning
In Mary, God really took flesh, since she is the Mother of Jesus, true God and true man. In this title resounds the heart of the Christian faith: God has drawn near, even to sharing our human condition.
In the Bible
“And why has this happened to me, that the mother of my Lord comes to me?” (Luke 1.43)
Meditation
God did not remain at a distance: he chose a human face, a story, a mother. In Mary, he enters into the concrete reality of human life: simple gestures, relationships, the passing of time. Absolutely nothing that we experience, even the most ordinary event, is foreign to him. Today as yesterday, God comes to dwell in our daily realities. But often, we are not aware of this. To welcome Mary as Mother is to learn to recognize this quiet yet real presence in the midst of our days.
Prayer
Mary, teach me to recognize God in what I will live today.
